As the landing craft stopped, all hundred of us stepped out onto the beach. On the coast stood an enormous, ash coloured cliff. The jagged, rocky surface of the cliff was partially concealed by thick, frog- green moss. As we staggered along the vast beach, our worn out leather boots created footprints on the smooth sand. Tripping now and then, I struggled my way through the ground littered with countless dead bodies.
