advice on reloading, can't find ammo?
Ok so I can't find any ammo apparently it's been in short supply recently for some reason, so I'm thinking about starting to reload any advice on kits for a .38 and a 12 gauge, and I'll probably do some reloads friends so some all around kits and places to get supplies in central FL
I am a reloading instructor.
First - the equipment for doing metalic cartridges is totally different from shotgun shells. Each one uses a different press. MEC is the best for shot shells - if you are not on a trap team, then avoid the larger models. For most people - the smaller less expensive models are totally perfect.
Second. You never reload for friends. Not unless you have a Class 2 manufacturing license and the $500,000 to $2 million in liability insurance required by most state law. You blow up a buddies rifle and he looses a hand or eye - he ain't gonna be your buddy for long.
Most people can learn from a book - but - this is only good if you have access to someone who can answer your questions. If you do not know anyone who reloads the same things you do - then take a class.
You need to be very careful who you get your information from. Many of the tips and tricks used by bench rest shooters to increase accuracy will blow up a semi-auto rifle.
Gun shops all across America are decorated with blown up rifles, pistols and shotguns - most all from bad reloads. The way to avoid this is only use proceedures shown in the manuals and loads that are printed in books, and, verify the load with a totally different source to verify it is a safe load. Never, use advice or load data from the internet unless it is from the bullet or powder manufacturer's web site.
